This year, I have been part of the planning process for the American Society for Indexing’s special event, to be held online on December 6.
I’m super excited about the lineup, not just because of the role I played in recruiting speakers, but because I focused on recruiting speakers that I thought would be interesting and beneficial on a range of levels:
Of course, I wanted to have database indexing be represented, so I went big — the United Nations thesaurus that enables information access to the Dag Hammarskjöld Library collection; a panel on hardware tools as well as a presentation on a software tool that aim to make the indexing process go smoother and, potentially, faster; a former FBI agent will talk about cybersecurity concerns — inspired partly by my own brush with scammers posing as clients, but widely applicable to any business owner; and a look to the future with a presentation on AI and its role in the publishing industry and indexing, specifically.
Absolutely anybody who is interested in any of these topics can sign up, regardless of ASI membership status!

FYI: The times of the presentations have been posted! The event starts at 9am PST/12pm EST and ends with a happy hour at 2:15pm PST/5:15pm EST. :)
